What and Why |
Throughout the centuries the faith has always been a privileged source of musical inspiration. Worldwide, composers have dedicated their major capabilities in the creation of works to make audible the "magnificence of God." This festival wants to be a background for these musical treasures by creating a platform where musicians of all parts of the world carry out together sacred music at the highest professional level. By means of these celestial sounds - as Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI said: "we already get a taste of heaven" and the hearts of the listeners become softer, as moulded by the spirit. The message of hope and love can "penetrate to the joint of the soul and the spirit" (Heb 4.12) and, as St. Augustine put it in lyrics, "by the caress of the ears a weak soul rises to an intimate piety" (Augustine,
Confessions). |
Concrete |
At this festival, in the various churches and chapels of the sanctuary, the most beautiful religious works that will be specifically performed are those of all periods and all musical styles, ranging from the Middle Ages going through the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romanticism periods until the current religious compositions by composers still alive. To do this, the best musicians both in our own country (Chapel Queen Elisabeth and others) and those worldwide will gather at Beauraing. The festival will be concluded by a final solemn concert at 7pm in which highlights of the sacred repertoire will resound.
