“The Colombian Soprano, Amalia Avilán was born in 1986. She began her musical studies at the Luis A. Calvo Academy, obtaining later a Bachelor in music from the National Pedagogical University of Colombia.
She studied singing with the Cuban baritone Ramon Calzadilla. In 2010 moved to Belgium and was accepted at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, which is also the opera studio of La Monnaie (National Opera of Belgium), and there she continued improving her singing skills thanks to the guidance of experienced coaches and the Belgium baritone Jose Van Dam.
In several opportunities she has participated in master classes with renowned experts as Helmut Deutsch, Jocelyne Dienst, Eythan Pessen and Philippe Riga, and has studied with teachers such as: Claudio Desderi Anita Garança, Nelly Miricioiu, June Anderson, Tom Krause and worked with major musical and stage directors as Jérémie Rhorer, Alain Altinoglu, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Christopher Warren-Green, Dirk Brosse, Patrick Fournillier, Laurent Pelly, Mariusz Trelinski Tatjana Gürbaca and Paul-Emile Fourny, she was recently one of the four participants of the prestigious annual masterclasses by Joyce DiDonato in the Weil Institute of Music at Carnegie Hall.”
